Status:Active, open to new members
Coordinator:
Group email: Steam Railways group
Venue: Gloucester Guildhall

The Steam Railway Group would be of interest to anyone who has either a serious interest and passion for steam trains or would just like the opportunity of reliving glorious past memories of steam travel in the UK. Since the group was formed in 2014 we have visited most of the Heritage Steam Railways within 2 hours of Gloucester. In addition we have visited the National Railway Museum at York, Steam at Swindon, The Great Western Society at Didcot and the marvellous Pendon Model Railway Museum near Abingdon.

In the cinema at the Guild Hall we have excellent guest speakers come and talk to us on specific Steam Railway related topics. These are usually on a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon. The last one was by Ian Crowder from the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Steam Railway about the restoration of a Standard Class locomotive number 76077. Our next meeting will be early in 2025, details of which will be posted on this website. We aim to have at least 3 such events each year.

Members of other local U3A's are most welcome to come along.
