We are delighted to welcome back local historian Tony Conder and the subject of his talk is apposite as the 200th Anniversary of the opening of the Sharpness Canal is next year!
The 16 mile canal was the widest and deepest in the world at the time. In all it took 34 years to complete, no payments were made to shareholders for 65 years, and the planned link to Bristol never happened.
