"THIRD AGE FOLK"
We meet at Lonsdale Road Methodist Church (GL2 0TA) either in the large hall or the church itself on MONDAY afternoons, usually from 2.00 - 4.00. Sometimes, however, our sessions are from 12.30 - 2.30 (group 1) and 2.00 - 4.00 (group 2) with tea at the crossover of the 2 groups. There's no difference between the groups except for when it happens to be more convenient for individual members to come. There's no obligation to attend every week.
Except for Bank Holidays, we get together most weeks in term-time, visiting other venues a few times each term to entertain informal audiences.
The cost is currently £25 per term, which goes towards the hire of the venue.
We play and sing a range of folk music: from traditions of the UK's 4 nations, continental Europe, and further afield. Some members learn tunes largely by ear while others read staff notation with various degrees of ease. On the whole, members play acoustic instruments but, as the band has grown, vocalists often use some amplification.
This is an open group: we'll do our best to accommodate any instrumentalist and/or singer, whatever your prior experience. If you'd prefer a different kind of group (such as strictly acoustic only / dedicated to dance music / focussing on '60s folk-rock / holding folk club style sessions / etc.) Sarah is very happy to support setting it up.
Please don't hesitate to contact Sarah (group leader) by using the link above, if you think you might be interested to join us as a singer and/or instrumentalist - you'll be very welcome 🙂

Christmas at Bramble House
On Monday 2nd December we played our Christmas program to the residents of Bramble House on Stroud road. Unfortunately no pictures were taken of this one. We've played a few times at Bramble House & they are always appreciative. Many joined in both singing along and playing various bits of percussion. An enjoyable afternoon all round.

Christmas fair at St Barnabas

On 30th November we made a slightly early start to our Christmas program by providing the music at St Barnabas Church Christmas fair. We played for almost 3 hours with a couple of breaks and received good feedback from the organisers. A fair few people came & went during the time & we all enjoyed playing.

TAF at Apple Day & at Bramble House

On Saturday 19th October Apple Day was celebrated at The Folk on Westgate and we played a 45 min set of Apple themed songs. This went really well even in the absence of our illustrious leader, Sarah. Unfortunately no one took any photos. On Monday 21st October we played for about 90 mins to the residents of Bramble House on Stroud Rd, and we do have a picture for that one. This was another good session with an appreciative audience who joined in on a number of songs. Made it all worthwhile.
